By Yusuf Abubakar.
The media office of Senator Atai Aidoko Ali, representing Kogi East, has debunked reports insinuating that the senator has been removed by Appeal Court ruling on Monday.
In a statement made available to Kogireports, the Senator’s media office said the Appeal Court, sitting in Abuja, stood down the application brought before it for lack of jurisdiction.
“Contrary to speculation going round, Senator Atai Aidoko Ali remains the senator representing Kogi East as the seat is not vacant. The Appeal Court simply reverted to status quo and ordered continuation of retrial going on at the Federal High Court.
“The rumours that the Senate seat was declared vacant ‎and that certificate of return has been issued to Senator Isaac Alfa is baseless, unfounded and figments of the imaginations of those peddling it.
‎”As we speak, the senator is carrying out official and oversight functions that boarders on SDGs and other parliamentary functions.
“Senator Aidoko is determined to attract more dividends of democracy to Kogi East. We urge supporters of PDP to disregard the rumour as their Senator is calm, in charge and on top of the situation.
“With this development, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja ‎will commence fresh retrial of Kogi East Senate seat on January 15, 2018,” the statement read.
