The Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) Thursday 27th September, screened and cleared Comrade Godwin Amade Edime to run for Kogi East senate in the 2019 general election.

Comrade Edime who was screened alongside other aspirants from the state and the Federal Capital Territory was the first to be attended to by the Professor Kingsley Macebuh-led screening committee.

Addressing members of the Press immediately after the exercise, Comrade Edime expressed happiness in the process describing it as transparent, excellent and rich in composition.

He said: “My appreciation goes, first of all, to God Almighty who has brought me to where I am today. I’m equally thankful to the screening committee members chaired by the erudite Professor Macebuh for finding me worthy of a clean bill of health going into the next stage. But since I’m the only aspirant for the senate position in Kog East, the primary election for my category will only be a formality where I will eventually become the candidate.”

Meanwhile, asked what his motivating and propelling force was aspiring to represent the Igala/Bassa nation in the Upper Legislative Chamber, Comrade Edime submitted thus: “Our people have long been marginalized in all ramifications, the extent of lopsidedness in federal allotments as it affects our people is incredibly mind bugging and this makes me shed tears nonstop. Can you imagine that no Igala man has been given Federal Permanent Secretary in a long time? It’s got to change!

“The ecological challenges we face in our land is so devastating and no one cares to put all that on the national agenda. I’m pained! Pained to my bones that Kogi East Senatorial District has to grapple with myriad of both natural and man-made avoidable dehumanizing circumstances but lacks men who have the passion and interest of our people at heart to confront these social menace headlong.

“What about employment opportunities for our young ones? Always tilted against people from Kogi East because nobody cares how this group of persons battle with daily living. All they care about is their personal enrichment agenda: how they would use our money to send their children to school overseas, drive the latest most expensive cars, lodge in the most luxurious hotels in Dubai and other countries in Europe and America, build hotels and other personal empires etcetera.”

The visibly angry Comrade further declared: “But I have a mandate! All that will change when I become senator. My voice will be loud and clear against any injustice against my people because for this cause I was born. I will challenge any established national and state tradition that inhibits development of our land and people. I’m not in this race for any self-serving assignment; my mission, just like I have always been known, is to liberate as many as possible from oppression and lack before I leave this planet earth. And I know that I have the backing of God and the people of Kogi East.”

So far, Comrade Edime, who is widely reputed for ingenious political strategy and grassroots mobilization, has been in the lead in all opinion polls including online and popular discussions among the people of Kogi East both at home and in the diaspora.

He however concluded by appreciating the members of the Press, party faithful and the entire people of Kogi East charging them to keep faith with him and the party and assuring them that God would give the party victory in the coming elections.
