The Kogi chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Saturday directed its members to disregard the threat by the State Government to sack any doctor who participated in the ongoing strike in the state.
A press statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Tijani Godwin and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja, said that the strike would continue until their demands are met and urged the members to be resolute in the struggle for their fundamental right.
The association also warned that no doctor should go and sign any register as any member who disobeyed the decision of the Congress will have him or herself to blame because the Congress decision is binding on all members.
“Information reaching us indicate that the Acting Head of Service, Mrs Kehinde Lawal, has directed the CMDS of HMB, KSSH and KSUTH to open register for the striking doctors as from Monday 8th May 2017 so as commence the “No Work No Pay Policy”.
“We are also threatened with sack if we failed to suspend the strike and resumed duty as it is being broadcast on media.
“NMA urge her members to disregard those threat and be resolute in this struggle. No doctor should go and sign any register.
“Any member who disobey the decision of the Congress will have him or herself to blame because the Congress decision is binding on all members.
“Remember: ‘Injury To One Is Injury To All’. Today is KSUTH-10, KSSH-5, HMB-7 and other categories of doctors with one issue or the other, tomorrow it may be you.
“ASUU, and other category of workers are on strike and they never threatened, rather pardon why NMA? Let join hand to save our profession today,” the statement reads.
The Kogi State Government threatened to terminate the appointment of any of its staff, under its health sector, that participates in the ongoing indefinite strike by doctors in the state.
Mrs Kehinde Lawal, the State’s acting Head of Service, made the threat in a circular she signed in Lokoja on Friday.
