Ahead of the yet-to-be scheduled governorship election in the state, the President of Okun Youth Foundation, Ayomide Otitoloju has called on Kogi electorate to demand for a better government.

Otitoloju made the call on Friday during a brief chat with newsmen in Lokoja.

According to him, gone are the days when youths vote for money and cheap politicians with no genuine reason for their inordinate actions.

He urged the youths to rediscover themselves, recognize their worth and play a role within the society.

“It has come to the open that youths of this prestigious state are lacking in diverse areas which can prevent development of our communities.

“Surely, there is no doubting the fact that the future of our community and our nation, lies in the hands of this growing generation.

“If there is an obstruction that hinders the growth and development of our communities, the way of ignoring the medium through which the project of communal development can be achieved, then, we will unfortunately be faced with a failed and dissolving state,” he said.

Otitoloju faulted the last elections in the state which he alleged was marred with violence that facilitated voters apathy. He stated that the use of military in the process discredited the electoral system.

“The last elections conducted in the Kogi State were full of irregularities owing to the use of military operatives and other unconstitutional means to deprive electorates from voting for the right candidates of their choice.

“My advice for the government is to desist from the use of military men in subsequent elections in the state and ensure all voters vote at will.”

The youth leader described the current administration of Gov Yahaya Bello as youth inclusive and  security conscious. However, he urged the governor to focus more on human capital development that will in turn better the lots of the masses in general.

“I will like to commend the New Direction government under the leadership of Alh. Yahaya Bello but would also like to draw the attention of the government to the need for a better representative government that will be more inclusive and people oriented.”
