It’s an obvious fact that the Central Senatorial Zone of Kogi State is not only grossly misrepresented but also massively underrepresented in the federal civil service. As a privileged Member of House Committee on Federal Character, I discovered that Kogi has the highest number of employees in almost all the federal parastatals probably because of its proximity to the FCT, and 45% of these employees are from the eastern part of the state while Kogi West has 40% and the Central 15%.
However, the recent shortlisted applicants by the Federal Civil Service Commission shows that 78 applicants from Kogi State are successful. Out of these 78, Kogi East has 28 while Kogi West has 26 and Kogi Central 18. This number is unbalanced for the three Zones and not acceptable, a lopsidedness which must be addressed. Thus, it is imperative for every senatorial zone to have a representative in the Federal Character Commission in order to effectively promote national integration.
When the problem of Federal Character is properly addressed, the issues of insurgency and other forms of violence emanating from injustice would be reduced if not totally eliminated.
