The school fee increment by some headmasters of primary schools in Kogi state, especially Okene local government, has been generating controversy, as parents are gearing for a showdown with school management over the increment.

The leader of Child Better Education, Mrs. Muhammed Asmarah, has also frowned at the recent increment in fees at Primary School level in Kogi State by the some educational secretaries.

All the standard Nursery and Primary Schools in Kogi Central has urged parents to pay the sum of five thousand Naira as the new school fees for their children and wards. These are not private schools, but public schools owned by the government.

Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello administration must hold all the education secretaries responsible for this outrageous fees during this hard time.

Okene local government area, the home of His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello; Chief of Staff, Abdulkareem Jamiu Asuku; Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar Ohere; LG Auditor, Alh. Usman Ododo and Director General Government House, Alh. Shaibu Oricha, should ordinarily enjoy free education, but the reverse is the case.

We call on the State Government to order for an investigation to unravel the perpetrators; why the sudden increment of fees in public schools, especially primary schools in Kogi state? Why running government inside government?

Kogites are already facing harsh economic situation in the state, especially in Kogi Central. Better education service delivery for all is not yet launched in Kogi State.

From our internal investigation, the Ministry of Education, on Monday, denied the school fees increment being peddled in the social media.

We may recall that last week the state government headed by Governor Yahaya Bello administration debunked tax levy on bread and ordered to investigate the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Usman Ibrahim over the controversial memo introducing levy on every loaf of bread produced in the state without approval from the Commissioner.

On this note,  we want to draw the attention of the government to look into the matter as a matter of urgency, same way it is probing the controversial bread tax.
