It was a show of shame on Tuesday, October 30, at the hallowed chamber of the Kogi State House of Assembly in Lokoja where the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Abdullahi Bello disrupted the peaceful session.
The plenary session which commenced on a cordial note was brought to an abrupt end due to the unruly conducts of the Majority Leader.
According to our reporter, the sitting had already commenced before the Majority Leader came and was seen banging on one of entrance doors. The Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Ahmed Muhammad intervened and ensured the door was opened for Bello.
Immediately he gained entrance into the chamber, he went straight to the Speaker’s table; hitting the table more than three times, even while Hon Pedro Obaro (Mopamuro/APC) was on his feet contributing to a motion of Matter of Urgent Public Importance moved by Hon Musa Jimoh (Yagba East/APC).
His actions made many of the members to leave the chamber, even Hon Pedro Obaro had to leave the complex immediately he finished making his contributions to the motion.
Due to the shameless conduct of the Majority Leader, the House was forced to end the plenary session abruptly following the motion moved by Hon Haruna Idoko Musa of Idah Constituency, for the House to dissolve into the committee of the whole.
The chaotic situation forced everyone at the gallery of the Assembly to run for their dear lives.
Some of the members who spoke to our reporter but don’t want their names in print condemned the ugly conduct of the Majority Leader and threatened to call for his impeachment without wasting time.
They said it is very wrong for the Majority Leader to come to the Chamber highly drunk, to the point of disrupting the business of the day.
A close source in the assembly confirmed that the Majority Leader claimed he was actually fighting to defend the interests of the Governor.
The source further disclosed that Hon Hassan Abdullahi Bello if not properly checked, might still cause more confusion in the Assembly on the suspicious claim that he is fighting the cause of the Governor.
Efforts to reach the Speaker, Prince Kolawole Matthew to comment on the incident proved abortive as at the time of filing this report, his telephone lines were not connecting.
