Kidney Failure: Veteran Kogi Journalist Appeals to Govt. for Assistance

An erudite journalist and publisher of the first local newspaper in Kogi State, Kogi Express, Mr Alimi Abubakar, who has been diagnosed with kidney infection has appealed to the Kogi state government for financial assistance to enable him seek proper medical treatment.

Alimi made the passionate appeal when the Chairman of the Kogi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Adeiza Momohjimoh, paid him a get-well visit at the Specialist Hospital Lokoja.

Alimi who revealed that he was diagnosed with the disease a couple of months ago, added that efforts to overcome the challenge had not yielded any positive result, despite exhausting millions of Naira raised through friends and family support.

He also sought the assistance of NGOs and other well-meaning Nigerians to come to his rescue and save his life.

“This disease, apart from the fact that it is weighing me down, has consumed all I have in terms of financial resources, all with no sign of improvement.

“I am appealing to the government of Kogi state, particularly our compassionate Governor, Alhaji Yahaha Adoza Bello, to come to my aid to save my life,” he begged.

The ailing Journalist said the results of various examinations conducted by medical doctors and consultants on his ailment showed that he would need the sum of N10 million to be able to undergo medical treatment abroad, in view of the worsening condition of his health now.

Speaking, Comrade Adeiza Momoh Jomoh used the opportunity to call on the humane Governor of the State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to come to the aid of the ailing journalist.

He equally called on public spirited individuals to kindly assist with support for the Journalist, praying God to bless all those who will come to the aid of the Journalists

The patient has since been transferred to the Gwagwalada Specialist Teaching Hospital in the FCT for further medication.
