Keep Lokoja Clean, Wada Commissions 700 Iron Drum Waste Bins

As Nigeria begins preparation towards the Centennial Celebration next year, the need to make Lokoja, the first Capital City of Nigeria clean, has taken the front burner as disclosed by the Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada.

The Governor who emphasised the vantage place of Lokoja in history while commissioning 700 Iron Drum Waste Bins,
warned the people against turning the River Niger and its banks to toilet as the city’s cleanliness will no longer be compromised.

Represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, called on the people to have a renewed attitude and accept the new government’s initiative of persuasion, warning that government will no longer tolerate the indiscriminate dumping of waste on road side.

The State Governor, called on the people to work towards changing the perception that makes the State Capital dirty, urged the people to imbibe the policy of using dump sites designated by government and the use of waste bins.

A clean environment, Capt. Wada explains breeds a healthy society,disclosed that the task of keeping the capital city clean can only be achieved through collective efforts.

Failure to adhere to the use of the waste bins provided and aimed at making the State Capital habitable, the Governor pointed out will henceforth be met with severe sanctions.

The Governor appealed to the residents to on a daily basis consciously work towards the cleanliness of their surroundings.

Earlier in her speech, Mrs. Florence Joseph, Acting Secretary, Kogi State Sanitation and Waste Management Board said the 700 dust bins will aid in refuse collection.

She equally added that the Iron Drum Waste Bins, which are locally made aims at encouraging households to cultivate the habits of collecting and disposing their waste as against the idea of dumping it on road divide.
