John Jerome has emerged Kogi United’s Player of the Month of June for his outstanding performance.
Jerome edged influential defender, Iko James and Micheal Bolaji to second and third position respectively in a poll conducted by the technical crew and the club management.
Presenting the prize to Jerome on Tuesday in Lokoja, Special Adviser on Youth Empowerment, Student Affairs and Sports to Kogi State Governor, Comrade Moses Deola Eseyin commended the striker for his commitment and dedication for the Confluence State club just as he charged him and other players not to relent on their efforts to make the club achieve greatness in the ongoing NNL season.
Comrade Eseyin reiterated that the Yahaya Bello’s administration would continue to encourage both the state owned clubs (including Confluence Queens FC) with necessary supports as well as empowerment of youths through sports in the state.
Chairman of Kogi United, Mallam Abdul Sule said the award was aimed at boosting the players’ morale and motivate them to give more to the club just as he said hard work and dedication wouldn’t go unnoticed.
An elated Jerome thanked his coaches and the management for choosing him for the gong with a promise to do more for the Lokoja based club.
“I’m extremely happy to win this prize, and I want to thank God for giving me the strength and knowledge of the game, I thank my teammates, my coaches and the management for their support and I promise not to let them down with my performance,” he said.
A cash prize with a branded Hummel jersey were presented to Jerome- who takes over the prize from last month’s award recipient, Shola Sheshere.
Jerome scored three goals for United last season after joining the club midway through the season. He’s replicating his previous season performance with another three goals in all competitions for the Ishaya Jatau led boys with the hope of scoring more.
