Incessant Bank Robbery: Kogi Assembly Calls For Emergency Security Meeting

Worried by incessant bank robberies across the state especially in Okunland of Kogi West Senatorial District, Kogi State House of Assembly (KGHA), has passed a resolution calling on the state government to convey Emergency Security meeting to find a lasting solution to the menace.

The resolution is consequent on motion under public importance by member representing Mopamuro constituency, Hon. Folusho Daniel on the rising incidence of bank robberies in the area.

According to him, the constant bank robberies have resulted in the stoppage of banking operations in the area which has paralyzed business activities. The law maker further stated that this has brought untold hardship to the people stating that the residents of the area have to travel to neighbouring states of Kwara and Ekiti in order to carry out banking transactions.

Hon. Daniel stated that in the five local government areas, no single bank is operating, adding that something urgent has to be done by all the security agencies to ensure the safety of lives and property of the people of the area by providing adequate security.

He called on the state government to convey emergency security meeting and assure all the banks in the area that adequate security be provided when the banks are opened for operation, adding that the need to provide military protection is imperative.

Seconding the motion, the member representing Kabba/Bunu Constituency, Hon Nathaniel Taiwo stated that banking activities have collapsed in Okun land, adding that the people who have to go to neighbouring states to transact businesses fall victims of robbery attacks where they were dispossessed of money and other valuables.

Contributing to the motion, the member representing Bassa Constituency, Hon Sunday Shigaba charged the House committee on Security to summon meeting of all the security agencies in the state with a view to providing permanent solution.
