- Expresses concern over insecurity, economic hardship, and underdevelopment; urges greater political participation ahead of the 2027 elections
The Igala/Bassa Leadership Council has reaffirmed its commitment to rebuilding Kogi East and restoring the region’s political relevance ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the most viable platform for achieving the aspirations of the people.
The declaration was made during a press briefing held on Thursday at Wisdom Home Hotel, Anyigba, Kogi State, where stakeholders reviewed the state of the party, assessed the socio-political situation in Kogi East, and outlined strategies for future engagement.
Addressing journalists, the Chairman of the Igala/Bassa Leadership Council, Engr. Dr. Sunday Edibo, stated that the PDP remains the most credible political platform capable of delivering purposeful leadership and sustainable development to the people of the region.

“The Peoples Democratic Party remains the most credible and people-oriented political platform for the people of Kogi East,” Edibo said. “The party possesses the capacity, structure, and vision required to secure victory in the 2027 general elections and provide the quality leadership our people deserve.”
He noted that the PDP has consistently served as a voice for the people by promoting justice, development, and inclusive governance across communities in Kogi East.
“The people of Kogi East deserve a government that listens to their concerns and responds with practical leadership and visible development. That is the commitment of the PDP,” he added.
The council, however, expressed concern over what it described as the deteriorating condition of the region under the current administration, citing insecurity, communal conflicts, economic hardship, and inadequate development as major challenges confronting residents.
According to the council, many communities continue to suffer despite years of political promises and leadership under the ruling party.
“It is unfortunate that Kogi East continues to grapple with insecurity, communal clashes, economic hardship, and other social and political challenges,” the council stated. “Many of these issues have remained largely unaddressed, with little or no tangible developmental projects to justify the confidence reposed in the ruling party by the people.”
The council subsequently called on residents of Kogi East to unite and support the PDP as a platform for liberation, progress, and the restoration of hope across the region.
“We call on the people of Kogi East to fully embrace the Peoples Democratic Party as the vehicle for liberation, progress, and the restoration of hope,” Edibo said.
The leadership further maintained that the PDP remains the strongest opposition platform and the most credible alternative for addressing the challenges facing the district.
“The PDP remains the strongest and most credible alternative capable of rescuing our people from hardship and suffering while providing leadership that prioritizes peace, development, and prosperity,” the council declared.
As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the council urged party faithful, youths, women, supporters, and stakeholders across the nine local government areas of Kogi East to remain united and committed to the collective goal of reclaiming political leadership in the region.
“We urge all party faithful, supporters, youths, women, and stakeholders to remain steadfast, mobilized, and committed to the mission of repositioning Kogi East for a better future through the PDP,” the council concluded.
The briefing ended with a renewed pledge by the Igala/Bassa Leadership Council to strengthen party structures across the district and intensify grassroots mobilization efforts aimed at securing electoral success for the PDP in the 2027 general elections.
