The Kogi State Government says it is resolute in making the Ibaji road that was washed by last year’s flood motor able before the rains become intense.
The State Governor, represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, made the pledge while assessing the damaged portion of the road with the contractor and other government officials.
The Governor frowned at the inability of the contractor to make appreciable impact on the road long after he had been mobilized.
The Governor described the road as vital to the agricultural revolution of his administration in view of the accelerated rice farm project on-going in the area and the sugar cane factory located in the area.
The governor equally described the road as one that has caught the attention of the international community in view of the flood that ravaged the area last year, said his administration is resolutely committed to fixing the road before the rains become intense.
The road when repaired Capt Wada disclosed would reduce the hardship presently faced by the people of the area whom he described as the food basket of the state.
The Governor ordered for a joint assessment by the Ministry of works officials and the Contractor to be represented as added bill of quantity to cover the noticed defect that was not covered by the initial bill of quantity earlier submitted to the State Government.
Government Wada added is committed to within the shortest possible time complete the road to reduce the hardship that is presently faced by the people.
In his remarks, the Representative of Rock bridge Construction Company, handlers of the project, Engr Iyad moree, said his company was going to meet the time limit for the early completion of the roads and commended the government for its understanding towards ensuring that areas not covered earlier by the bill of quantity is taking into cognizance.
Also speaking, David Oguh, Chairman Ibaji Local Government Area,described the present administration of Capt Idris Wada as a listening government and commended his dogged determination to ensuring the rebuilding of the damaged portion of the roads.
It would be recalled that the 33km Ibaji road had portion of the road washed away by last year’s flood making people and vehicular movement difficult.
The road which had since be awarded for repair had progress at a slow pace prompting the government’s matching order to the contractor to ensure its early completion.
