A community policing organization, Kogi East Neighborhood Watch (KENW), has called for the creation of separate command of Kogi State Vigilante Service in Oganenigu, Dekina local government, to check the reoccurring herdsmen attacks in the communities.

Director, Public Communication, KENW, Wing Commander Iye Ayefu Aku (rtd), made the call in a statement made available to journalists in Lokoja on Thursday.

Aku lauded the effort of the Kogi state government towards bringing lasting peace and security to Oganenigu communities who have been under threat by militia herdsmen who created a route from Nasarawa state into the general area.

He explained that the immediate creation of a separate command of Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS) for Oganenigu will help to deescalate the current crisis and give confidence to the people of some semblance of government security presence in the area.

“The Oganenigu communities are distant and separated from the adjoining communities in Dekina LGA with no form of government presence in security architecture,” he added.
