…reaffirms commitment to traditional institutions, community development

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro Federal Constituency, Hon. Abubakar Usman, has donated the sum of ₦1 million and a cow to His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ahmed Yakubu II, Ejeh of Ankpa, in support of activities marking the monarch’s fifth anniversary on the throne.

The donation is a gesture of goodwill in honour of the traditional ruler’s five-year reign and a demonstration of the PDP candidate’s support for traditional institutions and the preservation of cultural heritage in Ankpa and its neighbouring communities.

The anniversary programme, according to the invitation issued by the Ejeh of Ankpa’s palace, features a royal banquet scheduled for Friday, October 23, 2026, and a grand anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Ejeh Royal Palace, Ankpa, Kogi State.

The grand celebration is expected to feature cultural displays, traditional performances, the conferment of traditional titles and a royal reception.

Abubakar’s contribution underscores the importance of collaboration between political leaders, traditional institutions and community stakeholders in promoting cultural identity, unity and grassroots development.

Speaking on the significance of the donation, Abubakar said his gesture was borne out of respect for the revered institution of the Ejeh of Ankpa and recognition of the traditional ruler’s place in fostering peace, unity and development across the area.

“The Ejeh of Ankpa occupies a significant position in the history, culture and traditional identity of our people. Celebrating five years on the throne is an important occasion for Ankpa and its people, and I consider it a privilege to contribute to the success of this historic celebration,” he said.

He added that traditional institutions remain indispensable partners in community development, noting that sustainable progress requires respect for cultural heritage, inclusive leadership and a collective commitment to the welfare of the people.

Abubakar’s donation comes against the backdrop of his stated commitment to the welfare and development of the people of Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro Federal Constituency.

As the PDP candidate seeking to represent the constituency in the House of Representatives, his candidacy presents an opportunity to deepen grassroots engagement, strengthen community-oriented initiatives and promote a development agenda that responds to the needs of constituents across the three local government areas.

His supporters view his willingness to contribute to community events and acknowledge traditional institutions as part of the broader responsibilities expected of a representative who understands the social and cultural dynamics of the constituency.

Beyond ceremonial engagements, the constituency faces important development priorities, including improved access to quality education and healthcare, youth and women empowerment, support for farmers, improved road infrastructure and expanded economic opportunities for rural communities.

These priorities require purposeful legislative representation, effective engagement with federal ministries and agencies, strategic advocacy for constituency projects and transparent communication with the electorate.

For Abubakar, the challenge and opportunity of representing Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro lie in translating political goodwill into measurable improvements in the lives of the people.

Abubakar’s candidacy under the PDP offers an opportunity to place greater emphasis on responsive representation, accessible leadership and sustained engagement with constituents across the federal constituency.

A representative’s effectiveness is ultimately measured not merely by public appearances or political declarations, but by the ability to articulate the needs of the people, attract development interventions, support policies that improve livelihoods and remain accountable to the electorate.

His supporters believe that a people-oriented approach, built on cooperation with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, women and professional associations, can help create a stronger platform for inclusive development across Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro.

They also argue that the constituency needs a representative who will pursue practical solutions to its challenges while ensuring that communities across the three local government areas have a voice in decisions affecting their future.

The donation of ₦1 million and a cow in support of the Ejeh of Ankpa’s fifth anniversary celebration has therefore been presented by his camp as a gesture of solidarity with the traditional institution and the people whose cultural heritage it represents.

As the royal celebration approaches, the gesture adds to the public conversation surrounding the PDP candidate’s political aspirations and his stated commitment to grassroots engagement.

The broader expectation among constituents, however, remains that goodwill and philanthropy will be matched by a clear legislative agenda, effective advocacy and tangible development outcomes.

For the people of Ankpa, Omala and Olamaboro, the ultimate test of any candidacy will be its capacity to turn promises into progress and ensure that quality representation translates into meaningful benefits for the people.
