A group under the auspices of Prof. Ogbo Support Group and several other youth groups in Ogori-Magongo local government on Friday organized a novelty football match to commemorate the birthday of the Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman.
The novelty match was held at the RCM football field, Ogori.
The leader of the group, Hon. Monday Anuwe, in his opening remarks described Prof. Ogbo as a great leader and a bridge builder who made the Polytechnic witnessed both infrastructure and academic development that has attracted the attention of stakeholders that are desiring development for the state.
On his part, the chairman of the event Hon. Ojo Aturu, who is also the Special Adviser to the Governor on Good Governance and also the Chairman of All Progressive Congress while commending the organizer of the event which he maintained will foster inter-communal love and progress, appreciated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for transforming Kogi State to an enviable height.
“The football match is to bring peace and unity irrespective of tribe or religion across the local government” he stated.
Responding, the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Prof Usman Salisu Ogbo who was represented by the Director of Works Services in the institution, Engr. Adamu Abdullahi, thanked the good people of Ogori-Magongo Local Government for celebrating with him in this precious moment in his life.
In a goodwill message, Mr Ademola Ogundare who spoke on behalf of the youths in the area commended all associations for this partnership to recognize excellence as showcased by Prof. Ogbo in his administration in Kogi State Polytechnic.
The Youth Leader appeal to friends, sons and daughters of Ogori-Magongo to assist in seeking employment opportunities for indigenes of the areas who are now mostly left to face the current hardship of livelihood.
At the end of the novelty football match, UBE/JSS RCM School Magongo defeated their opponent
UBE/JSS CMS School Ogori by 2:1.
Highpoint of the football match is the presentation of awards to the winner by high chief Kunle Osiako Idu of Ogori land and the second by Hon. Ojo Aturu, the chairman of the event.
