Dignitaries from all walks of life are set to storm Iyara, headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State for the 2021 Iyara Day celebration and launching of 100 Million Naira education development fund.
According to a joint statement made available to newsmen by the National President of Iyara Development Movement (IDM) and Director General of Iyara Day, Mr. Samuel Olorundare, the annual celebration, which was postponed last year due to the dreaded Covid-19 pandemic that ravaged the world, will hold at Iyara Civic Centre at 11am on October 16.
“Schools in Iyara that used to be an envy of neighbouring communities in the past are currently in a dilapidated state and as you know the government is already overwhelmed by the insecurity and other challenges bedeviling the country.
“That is why we thought it wise to focus on our education as its importance to the development of even unborn generation cannot be overemphasized.
“Apart from raising fund for the development of education sector, the event is also aimed at celebrating our rich cultural heritage and projecting it to the entire world,” the statement added.
Among those expected at the epoch making event are; His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi State as Special Guest of Honour, Dr. Corneille Karekezi, Group Managing Director of African Reinsurance Corporation, Lagos as Chairman of the occasion with Princess Omotayo Adeleye Ishaya, SSA to Kogi State Governor on Women and Children Development as Lady Chairperson.
Others are a philanthropist per excellence and an Abuja-based businessman, Chief Michael Olobatoke as the Chief Launcher, the Senator representing Kogi West, Smart Adeyemi as Chief Host, while the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Council, Alhaji Taofiq Isa and His Royal Majesty (HRM), Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni are the Host and Royal Father of the Day respectively.
The rest are; Mrs. Folashade Joseph, Managing Director of Nigeria Agriculture Insurance Corporation (NAIC) as the Mother of the Day with HRH Oba Michael Olorundare as the Royal Host, while distinguished sons and daughters of Iyara and friends of the Community from both within and outside the country are to grace the programme.
