Lawmakers Hails Kogi Poly Rector Over Transformational Initiatives, Judicious Management of Resources

The Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman has been commended for his transformational initiatives and judicious management of resources which have elevated the standard of the institution.

The Chairman and members of the Kogi State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology gave the commendation at a joint meeting during the oversight visit to the Polytechnic on Monday.

Hon. Ododo Moses, the Deputy Chief Whip and Chairman, House Committee on Education who led other members of the Committee on the visit, noted that lots of giant strides achieved by the Kogi State Polytechnic were being adopted by other tertiary institutions in the state which was a reflection of Dr. Usman’s leadership quality in the Polytechnic.

Ododo further stressed that the oversight functions carried out by the Committee was not to witch hunt any heads of parastatals, but was part of the committee’s constitutional assignments.

He commended the Rector for maximum respect he always accorded the members of the State House of Assembly just as he assured him of the committee’s support to make the Polytechnic the pride of all.

On his part, Prince Collins Musa, who heads the House Committee on Public Accounts, stressed the need to revisit the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between state owned institutions and other parastatals with the revenue collectors in the state so as to make them more effective.

Prince Musa said some bureaucratic measures need to be reviewed for some government establishments like academic and health institutions to be self sufficient and meet up with the blueprint of performance put in place by state government.

Other members who spoke in turns expressed delight with the good work done by the present management to restore the dignity of the institution, especially in the area of infrastructure and quality assurance in the delivery of standard education.

In his response, the Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Dr. Salisu Ogbo Usman said the institution has been able to achieve more success and generated more funds for the state with the introduction of Treasury Single Account, TSA system by the government.

Dr. Usman noted that the system has helped the management to block lots of leakages and channel funds into meaningful projects that are now visible to all.

He told members of the hallowed chambers that with the support of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, Kogi State Polytechnic has witnessed immense infrastructural revolution.

While calling for the continued support of the House Committees on Education Science and Technology and Public Accounts, Dr. Usman promised that his administration will always be fair, just, firm, open to all and implement the New Direction blueprint of the current government faithfully.

Other members of committees on the visit include Aderonke Aro, Ujah Alewo Anthony, Enema Paul, Ademola Bello, Mr Adegbite Sunday Mamodu who is the Clerk of Public Accounts Committee and his counterpart from Education Committee, Mr Hussaini Umar.

Principal officers of the Polytechnic were also at the meeting.
