Gov. Bello Inspect Projects, Promises More Infrastructural Development

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state on Thursday assured the people of the state of more infrastructural development across the state, especially Lokoja the state capital.

Bello stressed that his administration remained committed to ensure that Kogi State especially the state capital became the modern city for every northern state to copy.

“We will ensure that Kogi State especially, the state capital becomes the modern city for every other northern state to copy.

“We are inspecting some gully sites especially in the state capital where erosion has really eaten into our landscape and our roads.

“We have seen areas where we can come in on our own as State Government, and areas where we will need to invite NEWMAP and federal government to collaborate to come to our aid.

“By the grace of God, we hàve even started work already, the State Ministry of Works and Urban Development is already intervening.

“We have reclaimed some areas that have been cut off for over five months, and it is already motorable now, and we intend to continue at our pace,” Bello said.

The governor urged the Federal Government through the Ecological Fund office and the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) to give more support to Kogi in tackling the menace of gully erosion in the state especially the capital city.

“We are urging the federal government especially the Ecological Fund Office and NEWMAP to come to our aid”.

The governor added that the government was equally sensitising people to ensure that they do not recklessly dump refuse on waterways so as not to block the drainages during raining season.

The sites inspected were SUBEB junction, Cemetery road and Jakura Marble road.
