The Media Office of Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, has issued a public warning to Hon. Alfred Bello, accusing him of a sustained campaign of defamatory and inciting statements against the lawmaker.

In a statement released by the Media & Publicity Bureau of Faleke’s office on Tuesday, the lawmaker’s team said Bello had, over recent weeks, used various media platforms to circulate claims it described as false and malicious. The office said it had initially declined to respond to the remarks but decided a formal warning was now necessary given what it called an escalation in tone.

According to the statement, Bello recently called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and “call Hon. Faleke to order,” alleging that the lawmaker was contributing to political tensions in Kogi State. The Faleke camp rejected this characterization, describing it as unsubstantiated, and pointed to what it called a cordial working relationship between Faleke and Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, as evidence against Bello’s claims.

The statement went on to highlight Faleke’s record in the state, citing development projects across Okunland and wider Kogi State — including healthcare outreaches, road, water and electricity infrastructure, palace construction, and philanthropic initiatives — as part of its case that Faleke’s focus has remained on constituency development rather than political conflict.

The media office was also critical of Alfred Bello personally, accusing him of an “entitlement mentality” and suggesting his conduct reflected the political style of his former party, the PDP, which it said had no place within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bello’s current party. It maintained that while Alfred Bello was free to support any political figure of his choosing, he was not entitled to use Faleke’s name in what it characterized as baseless attacks.

The statement concluded with a direct warning: Bello must “cease and desist” from further remarks concerning Faleke, or risk facing legal action. It further cautioned him against comments it deemed disparaging toward President Tinubu, stating that such conduct would also carry legal consequences.
