The need to update on regular basis educational curriculum, to meet contemporary needs of the nation has been advocated as a means of improving on the fallen standard facing the educational sector.
The need to also improve infrastructures, introduce modern technology and instructional teaching materials to aid in teaching and learning, especially in this era of information technology, would help improve on the fallen standard of education.
The above factors where highlighted as ways the nation’s education can gain its lost glory, by Abu Michael, a journalist, and media guru, at the Speech and Prize given day ceremony of Anchor International School, Lokoja.
Mr Abu who was the Chairman of the occasion, called for a constant review for the qualification of teaching personnel in schools, maintained that the place of training and retraining of the teaching stock in our schools deserves urgent action.
Abu, called on government at all levels to on a yearly basis make the budgetary provision for education a top priority, said the on going recruitment of teachers by the Federal government should be based on merit.
Mr Abu appealed to the Kogi State government to place emphasis on the recruitment of science teachers, said salaries of workers in the primary and secondary schools should be on a first line charge.
He praised the management of Anchor International Schools, for maintaining high quality of standard, commended the school for it excellent balance in academic and extra curricula activities.
In her remarks, Mrs Omale Mathias, Proprietress of Anchor International Schools, said the school is poised to raise a generation of intellectually sound future leaders.
While promising to stand by the commitment to empower pupils and students of the school to enable them exploit their full potential, she described the 2015/2016 academic session as one that saw the school winning medals in academic and extra curricula activities it took part in.
Highlights of the 2015/2016 Speech and Prize given day was the presentation of awards to pupils and students who came top in their various classes.
