We must commend and appreciate our wonderful and highly distinguished 2019 set of representatives from Kogi East at the National Assembly for the giant strides in empowerment.

For two days now, I see many Kogites mostly of Kogi East posting on social media praising one Bauchi State senator, Senator Halliru Jika representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District over an empowerment program he  carried out in his Constituency.

I was not surprised at their actions as it’s common of an average Kogi East youth to celebrate an outsider compare to his brother, most especially the Igalas.

For record purpose, not quite long ago, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim (Halims), Member representing the good people of Ankpa/Omala/Olamaboro federal constituency sometimes in Dec 2019 and His Excellency Edward Onoja, Deputy Governor of  Kogi State commissioning one thousand (1,000) machines that include motor cycles, mill grinding machines, tricycles (the one used to transport goods from one point to another), sewing machines, vulcanizing machines in a programme that was hosted by Hon. Halims at his constituency office in Ankpa.

Well, it is a welcome development but none of those posting and praising Hon Jika from Kogi East posted it.

Recently, Hon. Halims proved himself worthy of representation by distributing 1,800 fertilizer bags across Ankpa/Omala/ Olamaboro federal constituency as part of his efforts or outreach to promote agricultural development in his constituency. Also, Hon. Halims distributed  one thousand (1000) sewing machines, tricycles (known as keke napep) for easy transportation and to move goods from one point to another – they don’t see that worthy of posting and acknowledging.

Another great representative is Hon Zacharias Isah David representing Ofu Federal Constituency at the Federal House of representatives. Few months ago, he empowered youths across the four local governments in Idah federal constituency in two separate empowerment programmes. The youths received over 50 tricycles, 100 motorcycles, refrigerators, grinding machines, industrial sewing machines, sewing machines, sets of barbing saloon equipment, generating set and other kits for various vocational programmes sponsored.

In the last one-year, over five million naira has been disbursed to petty traders who have already existing informal business and over 100 other new businesses were given free loans to start various forms of businesses by Hon Zack. This cut across markets in Ochadamu, Ejule, Itobe, Egah-Idah, Ajaka and Ibaji local government.

Do all this our brothers post his achievements and appraise him like how they are doing in the case of Hon Jika?

Just this week, Hon Hassan Baiwa representing Dekina Federal Constituency gave out not less than 5 jobs to youths from his constituency. It is said that he do give out at least 5 employment letter to various youths in a week since he was elected. Calculate how many have gotten jobs so far courtesy of him. How many of them are posting it and praying for him to do more?

How many of our youths are celebrating these lawmakers like they celebrate their counterparts from other states?

Some of our youths are only good at criticising our own than celebrating them or promoting them. Best we have a change of narrative. Those we love hyping and celebrating above our own are not really better than ours.
What you don’t appreciate, you cant attract. If we don’t celebrate ours, no one will do it for us. Let learn to always be proud of our own.
