Eleta Oluyara, IDA Seeks NEMA, SEMA Assistance as Rainstorm Sacks Over 1000 in Kogi Community

The Eleta Oluyara of Iyara, Oba Jacob Meduteni, has called o government and public spirited individuals to come to aid of his people after a rainstorm has wrecked havoc in Iyara community, headquarters of Ijumu local government area of Kogi state.

No less than one thousand persons were displaced after roofs of over one hundred houses were taken off by the night storm in Sunday.

Speaking shortly after embarking on an on-the-spot assessment of the damage done, Oba Meduteni described the disaster as unfortunate, coming at a time that the people are trying to manage the current economic hardship.

He called on well-to-do individuals and corporate bodies to assist the victims to ameliorate their sufferings.

According to the National President of Iyara Development Association (IDA), Alh. Aliyu Badaki, over 1000 persons have been affected by the disaster mostly women and children.

Alh. Badaki described the destruction as massive and a disaster beyond what the victims can handle due to the current economic situation in the country.

He appealed to the State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Federal Government via the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to come to the aid of the victims.

The National President sympathised with the victims on the unfortunate incident, saying it is a natural disaster.

Affected residents of the community are now counting their losses following the night rainstorm as some are currently taking shelter with neighbours, families and friends.
