As Muslim all over the world mark this year’s Eid-El-Kabir celebration, member representing Ankpa 1 constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, Honourable Ahmed Mohammed has urged Muslims in the state and his Ankpa 1 to dedicate the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to pray for unity and peace in the country.
In a Sallah message signed by his senior legislative aide, Prince Tijani Dauda in Ankpa, the Deputy Majority Leader said, “This is an opportunity for us to reflect and pray for God’s guidance and good health, and for all those in leadership positions, so that God, in his infinite mercy, will continue to guide us as we steer the affairs of the state.”
Eid el-Kabir is an Islamic festival to commemorate the willingness of prophet Ibrahim to obey Allah’s command to sacrifice his son Ishmael, where the Almighty provided him with a ram to slaughter instead of his son. He said the significance of the season should go beyond the festivities towards sincere commitment to righteous conducts in private and public lives.
Finally, he urged the people to “shun all forms of religious, ethnic and tribal sentiments, in the interest of unity, peace, progress and prosperity of not only ourselves, but for the interest of the state, as Islam is identified by unity and religious tolerance as panacea to achieving peace and development and called on all Muslim faithful to use the opportunity created by the celebration to preach unity in the country”.
