Echane Festival; Okene Council Chairman Parleys Cultural Union, Strategizes on Peaceful Celebration

Ahead of the forthcoming Echane festival schedule to begin 17th May in Okene, the Executive Chairman of the council, Engr. Abdulrazaq Muhammad has had series of meetings with custodians of day masquerades under the umbrella of Ebira Cultural Union in Okene Local Government to fashion out modalities of having a peaceful celebration of one of Ebira colourful cultural festival.

Hon. Abdulrazaq, in a message, assured the union of government’s readiness to support the festival with all necessary logistic and security arrangements for a hitch free exercise.

He, however, cautioned the stakeholders that he will suspend the celebration at any moment they breach laid down rules and regulations.

The council boss maintained that the Local Government shall issue clearance permit to all masquerades with two sureties and a recommendation notes from the leadership of the cultural union, ward head and traditional ruler in area where the custodian or the masquerade is resident.

The Chairman equally directed cultural union to ensure masquerades do not harass women, business premises, strangers and motorcycle operators. They would also avoid traffic jam on the federal roads.

The nine days event is expected to witness the outing of day masquerades from morning till evening each day across Okene Local Government.
