DG NYSC Urges Corps Members to be Security Conscious, Apolitical

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, on Tuesday urged the participating corps members in Kogi elections to be patriotic, security conscious and apolitical in their conduct.

Ibrahim gave the advice at a meeting he held with NYSC members at Muslim Comm. Sec. Sch., Lokoja, towards the Nov. 16 governorship and national assembly elections in the state.

The NYSC boss stressed the need for the corps members to continue to be patriotic, neutral, apolitical and abide by the rules and regulations as spelt out in the electoral guidelines.

”You must not violate the rules and regulations because there is no immunity for corps members.

“So, please don’t do anything untoward that would bring bad image to you, your family, the NYSC, INEC and the society at large.

“Don’t allow yourself to be used by anybody. NYSC has bylaws and Nigeria constitution is biding on you; whoever commit any infraction would face the consequences.

“You are here on national assignment and you are a national assets to your parents and to the country,” Ibrahim advised.

He, however, assured assures the corps members of adequate security, saying the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had assured that their security was paramount to the police and all other security agencies.

He advised the corps members to strictly follow all the security tips that had been given to them, stressing that their safety remain the first thing.

VYour safety first; you must be very smart and sensitive; don’t endanger your safety. You must follow all the security tips given to you strictly.

“You must be neutral, non partial, and don’t collect bribe from anybody,” he warned.

He further warned them to avoid collecting any food items or money from any politician or anybody, while urging them to be punctual, cautious, polite and fair in their dealings with the electorates.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, thanked the DG for the highest level collaboration of the NYSC with the commission.

He commended the corps members for the patriotism, saying they remained the most patriotic, enthusiastic, and the most readily available partners.

He assured the NYSC members of their security, saying “we take your security very seriously, and we will ensure adequate protection for you including corpers lodge while away you a way on the field”.

He further assured them that all their allowances and entitlements for the elections had been adequately taken care of in the appointment that would be given to them.

“We had stakeholders meeting earlier today, and this is my second visit to Kogi in one month and the whole purpose is to reassure the people of Kogi State, that we are ready for the election.

“We believed that in the next four days we will deliver free, fair and credible elections in Kogi state,” Yakubu said.
