Former lawmakers who once served in the Kogi State House of Assembly, between 1999 and 2015, have described the current Assembly as the worst in the history of the state. They prayed never to have such a gathering of legislators.

The former lawmakers who are of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) extraction, stated this in a statement signed by Barrister Henry Ojuola, Chairman of the former lawmakers forum, took a swipe at the lawmakers after rising from a meeting held in Lokoja on Thursday.

The former lawmakers condemned the present House for turning the lawmaking business into a laughing stock. They lamented that the people they ought to represent, particularly workers, are suffering under the yoke of unpaid salaries.

The former lawmakers said the current House, without mincing words, failed the people they ought to represent. They added that the House didn’t show experience, compassion, courage and dexterity expected of lawmakers.

“It is in our views that this House of Assembly is an assemblage of representatives that failed to provide the needed hope that was needed by the people in the circumstances that the state finds itself.

“We are worried that we had an assemblage of lawmakers who could not stand up to the challenge when it mattered most, pointed out that history would remember them for wasting the four years as well as the tax payers money they earned in the hallowed chamber.

“We equally condemn in strong terms the last House of Assembly election in the state. The election would also end up producing lawmakers who are not the peoples choice because of the violence and malpractices that produced the alleged winners.”
