Crisis Rock Ijumu Legislative Arm: Council Leader, Chief Whip Impeached

Crisis rocked Ijumu Legislative Council on Monday as the council leader, Hon. Olayinka Omoshagba and Chief Whip, Hon. Theophilus Olorunmade were impeached over allegations of abuse of office, gross incompetence, display of high headedness and arrogance.

This was the outcome of a plenary session held at the Ijumu Legislative Chamber.

The impeachment was signed by 7 out of the 15 Councilors in the legislative arm.

The impeachment was signed by the following councillors; Hon Sunday Solomon – Ayetoro ward 1, Hon  Amupitan Fatai Segun, Majority Leader – Iyah Ayeh, Hon Obayori Samson – Ayere/Arima, Hon. Omonola Durojaiye – Ekinrin Adde, Hon Olorunsola Omolara – Ilare/Igbolare, Hon. Olumodeji Mayowa – Okoro/Igah, Hon Jacob Obadofin – Ayegunle/Iluafon.

One of the members who spoke to our reporter said the Council Leader was also accused of anti–party activities by romancing ADC candidates. 

“The Council Leader who is a stark illiterate that cannot differentiate motion from bill and has refused to learn legislative process for self and council development for the past 2 years.

“The Council Leader, who double as the chairman IGR (Tractors), in connivance with some executive members, was accused of siphoning and misuse the Ijumu IGR, and was impeached.

“Former Council Leader, Hon. Yinka Omoshagba was alleged and accused of misuse of office by suspending two councillors with 5 council members out of 15 members.

“Hon. Mayowa Olumodeji and Hon. Omonola Duro elected as the Council Leader and Chief Whip respectively,” he said.

Hon. Mayowa Olumodeji has emerged as the new Council Leader as he has been sworn in.
