The frequent blackmail and attacks on the person of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi State, have been traced to some aggrieved politicians who does not like the reforms of the ‘new direction’ policy of the present administration.
The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Kogi state Chapter, Alhaji Taufiq Isa revealed this while interacting with newsmen in Lokoja.
Isa said the fight against corrupt politicians and the civil service reforms embarked by Gov. Bello provoked some Abuja-based politicians who have vowed to pull Governor Bello’s government down at all cost.
He noted that before the coming of Gov. Bello, several million of naira were stolen and carted away by these old breed politicians.
“A lot of people are involved in corruption in the state. They have stolen too much from Kogi’s treasury, but since the coming of the present administration, the stealing has stopped and people who benefited from the corrupt system are now ganging up against Governor Bello. They are trying to blackmail the Governor so as to paint him black and poison the minds of the people against the present administration. That is why they want to stop him by all means.
“People who have been living on corruption have now found out that they can no longer live on corruption again because Gov. Bello has blocked all the conduit pipes used to siphon Kogi treasury. They want Kogi to go back to square one, they have no conscience.
“This is the real reason why several court cases were instituted against the present administration just to distract and dissuade the government from delivering good governance to the people, unfortunately to them, Gov. Bello is destined to rule and shall continue to be the Governor beyond 2019,” he said.
The council boss commended Governor Bello for visiting Ogane-Nigu for on-the-spot assessment of the communities attacked by armed bandits. He said the governor has taken a bold step by setting up judicial panel of inquiry in order to unravel the perpetrators behind the killings.
