Call for Transparency: Dear Gov. Bello, is Lugard House Part of ‘Successfully Auctioned’ Kogi Assets?

Some days ago, I read in the news that Kogi state government assets have been ‘auctioned successfully’ in far away Kaduna state.

The licensed auctioneer, Alhaji Friday Idachaba said the auctioned assets are largely dormant properties. He educated us that proceeds from the sales will be used to provide infrastructures for the people of the state.

Alhaji Idachaba however did not tell us which of our assets were auctioned off. The state government as well has not deemed it fit to tell Kogites which of their commonwealth is being sold.

So far, there has been no transparency in the whole transaction.

Who appointed Idachaba as the auctioneer? When was he appointed? Which of our assets are being put up for sale? These and many questions are begging for answers.

Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, we the good people of Kogi State want to know if the Lugard House, Kogi State Government House, is one of the assets that were ‘auctioned successfully’ by Idachaba.

We are aware that during your first term in office, you made frantic efforts to sell Kogi House and Liaison Office, both in Abuja. We were also told that there were plans to sell Kogi Hotels, Confluence Beach Hotel, Diagnostic Centre and a horde of other assets.

With the desperation to sell our assets, one begins to wonder if a day will come when a sitting Governor will auction Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Reference Hospital Okene, Revenue House, Lokoja and other assets you have laboured to erect across the state.

Few days ago, your Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Salifu Isah, denied plans to sell Kogi Hotels. That is, the hotel is not part of our assets that has been auctioned successfully.

In the midst of these claims and counter claims, it is imperative that the state government come out clear on the assets sale.
