The APC Yagba Federal Constituency primary election has come and gone. It was a free and fair contest and like in any other political contest, a winner emerged. The winner was Henry Tuesday Abimbola, he will fly the flag of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 February election as slated by INEC. No controversy over that.
The concern of the media team is the malicious lies flying in some corners that the election was manipulated to favour our Principal, Henry Tuesday Abimbola. It is the thinking of the team to ignore such unfounded insinuations but we are compelled to straighten the records as it is said that lies not countered with facts have a way of hoodwinking the general public. It is on this note that we wish to present the facts as transpired on the 6th October in Isanlu Town Hall, the venue of the election.
The election was contested by two brothers and friends of many years from the same community- Takete Ide in Mopamuro LGA of Kogi State. There was no love lost between the two brothers all through electioneering campaigns and during the election. In fact, the two aspirants were seen sitting together, chatting like friends and brothers all through the night. This is particularly a display of good sportsmanship and maturity.
The election started after the contestants were allowed to present an agent each. The two aspirants were allowed to cast their ballots and election started with delegates from Yagba West. Mopamuro delegates took their turn in voting. It was when Mopamuro delegates were voting that thugs from a corner started behaving in manners that could jeopardize the peaceful conduct of the election. The very proactive security personnel came around to see that the election was not disrupted and the election continued.
It is important to draw the attention of the general public to the following;
1. That Mr Edward Olatunji and his agent Mr Segun Mofobi were on ground until the last person casted his ballot.
2. That the ballots were collated and counted in the presence of the delegates, Mr Edward and Mr Segun Mofobi his agent that night.
3. That the election was conducted by a delegation of the party from the APC National Secretariat and witnessed by INEC and other accredited observers.
4. That the Returning Officer Mr Idris Ibrahim declared the result as follows:
Edward Meseko – 292
Tuesday Abimbola – 639
Unused ballot – 50
Voided ballots – 10
He declared Mr Henry Tuesday Abimbola winner.
It is in totality that we wish to condemn enemies of the party whose evil intention is to discredit the very transparent process that produced our principal. Like we already noted, Henry Tuesday Abimbola and Mr Edward Meseko are brothers before politics. The winner in his acceptance speech pledge to work with all especially Mr Edward who he openly described as his brother.
We therefore want the general public especially the good people of Yagba Federal Constituency to know that the election was conducted and won fairly while we enjoin all especially those who want to misrepresent fact for ulterior reasons to embrace the fact that a winner must emerge in a contest. The past is gone, we can face the future together with the formidability of a bunch of broom – the symbol of our great party, the APC.
