Akawu Pledge to Improve IGR of Rubber Research Institute

Chairman, Governing Board of Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria (RRIN), Hon. Siadu Akawu Salihu, has pledged that the board would improve the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), for the Institute.
Salihu made the pledge at the inaugural meeting of the board held at the Institute’s headquarters in Benin on Monday, 23- 27 April.
He expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity to serve on the board of the RRIN while soliciting the cooperation of the staffers to enable the board achieve its mandate.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the 5-day inaugural meeting, Akawu stated that the board resolved thus:
“The board under my watch will cooperate with the management of the Institute to improve the IGR.
“The meeting took an overview of the operation of the institute and came to the conclusion that given proper funding it can be a veritable source of alternative revenue to d FG through expansion of production of Rubber and Arabic gum.
“To achieve the above, the board resolved to look into the issue of career progression especially for staff who have been in acting capacity for too long that need to be promoted.
“A new committee for enlightenment and advocacy was created by the board to give positive  projections on the activities of the Institute.
“The board also resolved to come up with reforms that  will improve the IGR of the Institute.
“Access road to the Institute is in very deplorable state, hence the board resolved to pursue the construction of an asphalt tarred road leading to the institute off Benin- Sapele High way,” he said.
The RRIN chairman called on the management to partner with board to realize the objectives of the federal government in the rubber sector saying that Nigeria’s rubber sector is capable of driving the Nigerian economy, hence the need for the management to be in tandem with the board of the Institute to achieve the overall goal of the federal government.
He said; “We are very fortunate with the caliber of people we have on our board and we are going to start work with the management immediately,” he concluded.
