A front line politician from the central senatorial district of Kogi State, Alhaji Abdulrahman Adoke, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing into Law, the State Assembly, and the Judicial Autonomy bill.
Speaking with journalists in Lokoja on Sunday, Adoke, a two time senatorial candidate of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) noted that it takes a courageous leader to do what President Buhari has done.
He said “In addition to his fight against corruption and insurgency in some parts of the country, the president has scored another major political point.
“The President has demonstrated the he is a statesman. I takes a man or President with courage to do what he has done. In addition to his fight against insurgency and corruption, he has scored another major political point.”
According to him, the Autonomy bill was long overdue, saying that the development will make the three arms of government to be truly Independent of each other.
He called on the state Houses of assembly across the country to expedite action on the passage of the Local government Autonomy bill to give the third tire of government its due place in the political structure of the country.
He stressed that the Local government as the third tire of government and the closest to the common man need financial autonomy to make them viable and effective.
The politician while advocating for a rancour free election ahead of the 2019 general elections, noted that development can only thrive in peaceful society.
“I am appealing to politicians to play the game peacefully. Development can only thrive in a rancour free society. I equally call on the Independent National Electoral Commission, to be transparent in their conduct. They must strive to be truly Independent,” he said.
