Atai Aidoko Ali Continuity Group has warned agents of Kogi state government and law enforcement agencies whose activities is tailored towards muzzling the opposition in the state to desist henceforth so as to avoid reprisal attacks capable of leading to break down of law and order.
The political group, in a statement released by the spokesperson, Idris Yakubu condemned the frequent attacks on the PDP lawmakers whose representation is tailored towards the people’s welfare through provision of social infrastructure the state government had ignored.
He bemoaned the relentless confrontations by the agents of the state government in compromise with the security agencies that has led to destruction of the constituency projects, attacks on lawmakers and disruption of lawful gathering.
The group described the frequent attacks on the senator representing Kogi central, Ahmed Salau Ogembe and his Kogi West counterpart, Dino Melaye as undemocratic.
He said recently the state government in conjunction with the police disrupted the empowerment program at Okene after the attempt to kill Dino Melaye during his projects commissioning tour in Kogi west. He berated the government for the burning down some blocks of classrooms built for schools in Kogi local government and destruction of skill acquisition center in Aiyetoro Gbede.
“The new trend of attacks on opposition elements is undemocratic and sadistic, especially for government who has no political will to provide social infrastructure and developmental projects as well as lacking plans on how to engage the youths in profitable ventures.
“The violent approach of agents of Kogi state government is unacceptable and unbecoming of persons saddled with the responsibility of protecting lives and properties. The already bought over law enforcement agents are used to perpetrate these undemocratic and uncivil conducts on elected representatives who have the people’s interest at heart as against the nonchalant attitude of the government towards its citizens in the state,” he said.
AAA continuity group encouraged the federal lawmakers not to be distracted by the antics of the state government and its agents who never meant well for the people of the state.
“The same group of people at the corridor of power in Kogi who are always in the media criticizing federal lawmakers over constituency projects, yet where available, they discourage people from gaining access to it. It is regrettable and discouraging.
“Sometimes ago, Benjamin Ikani Okolo, representing Dekina/Bassa Federal constituency, was fought to standstill by these same group to stop the inauguration and commissioning of electricity projects meant to ameliorate the suffering of electorates in his area. There were also series of undemocratic practices in other parts of the state, once the achievers are not part of the ungodly administration. For how long shall we continue in this trend?
“Efforts are also on to frustrate the legal process of Kogi East Senator through connivance with his opponent who had promised the state government that he will defect to APC.”
He urged the people to take note of all this misconduct and be prepared to do the needful by voting the people’s choice in the forthcoming election to avoid the mistakes of the past.
