Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2024 Local Council Election.
The Commission fixed the conduct of 2024 Local government chairmanship and councillorship election polls to hold on 19th October, this year.
In a statement released and signed by the Chairman of KOSIEC, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, Chairman said, “With the powers vested on the State Independent Electoral Commission by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) and other powers enabling it, the Commission hereby present this timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of 2024 local Government polls in Kogi State.
The KOSIEC Chairman said the timetable and schedule of activities for the general election are in line with electoral Act, 2020 (as amended) and other powers enabling it.
He added that the Stakeholders meeting and Notice of Election have been accomplished in July, 2024, noting that the law and Electoral Act provides not later than 90 days before the day of election.
He restate that the sensitization tour to the 21 local government areas will start on Monday, 22nd to Wednesday 31st July, 2024, while conduct of party primaries will commence on Monday 5th August, 2024 and end on 19th August 2024, including resolutions of disputes arising from primaries to enable political parties democratically nominate candidates for elections as provided for by the law.
The Chairman further stated that collection of forms will kick start on Tuesday 20th – Friday 23rd 2024, while the last day for submission of forms to SIEC headquarters stop on 30th August, 2024
The verification and Documentation exercise for claims and objections will commence on Wednesday, 4th to 11th of September, 2024.
The political parties shall commence their electioneering campaigns on Thursday, 12th 2024, while publication of list of candidates to political parties will be placed on 13th September, 2024.
The last day for withdrawal by candidates/substitution of uncleared candidates will be on Monday September 16th to 20th September 2024.
The publication and delivery of final list of cleared candidates by SIEC to political parties will take place 23rd September, 2024, while the publication of Notice of poll comes up 30th September, 2024.
The last day for submission of names of polling Agents by the political parties is scheduled for Wednesday 2nd October, 2024 and the last day for political party campaign will be on Thursday 17th October, 2024.
Finally, the local Government election proper will take place on Saturday, 19th October 2024.
