Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kogi State, Dr Olusola Baoku said Nigerian doctors across the country and in diaspora now look up to the immediate President, World Medical Association (WMA), Dr Osahon Enabulele to bring his wealth of experience in guiding a free, fair, credible and peaceful transition process.

Speaking to journalists ahead of the NMA National Officers Committee (NOC) election slated for Saturday in Calabar, Dr Baoku noted that the process will serve as a litmus test for the leadership of NMA in the Country, adding that, it is the first keenly contested elections across all zones.

While appealing to the immediate past WMA boss to help ensure smooth process, the Kogi NMA Chairman said “so far, the constitution of NMA has been respected from the process of collection of forms till clearance of all the 29 members by the National officers committee to contest the forthcoming elections.

“I want to salute our President for allowing true democracy and rule law to prevail in the electioneering process thus far whereby all eligible and willing aspirants have collected forms, submitted and they have all been cleared to contest according to the compilation lists sent to all the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“I am calling on the immediate past president of WMA , Dr Osahon Enabulele to help guide this process as the eyes of the world is on us and his reputation as a global icon is that of a honorable and noble man of impeccable character with loads of award as a testament to his great achievements.

“We are also calling on the outgoing President of NMA Dr Uche Rowland Ojinmah to shun all the enemies of the association who are plotting an unconstitutional disqualification of some members already cleared and vetted to contest as that will be tantamount to injustice and robbing them of their fundamental human rights.

“The election will come and go but it’s important that the process is free, fair , credible and a reflection of the will of people to allow for unity , peace and progress in the association and so that the labour of our heroes past and present should not be in vain”.
