A youth group, Okun Core Progressives (OCP) has berated some politicians from the area who are constantly plotting against the general wishes of the people.
In a statement issued in Lokoja on Sunday, President of the group, Omosona Olakunle, expressed dismay that some supposed leaders could condemned the recent visit to President Bola Tinubu by leaders of Okun Development Association (ODA).
Omosona described critics of the visit to presidential villa as enemies of democracy who wish to unleash violence on the people of the state before, during and after the November governorship election in the state.
He wondered what could have motivated politicians affiliated to Governor Yahaya Bello to condemn a pro-democracy visit.
“Okun leaders visited the president and made clear, specific requests. First, they told the President that Okun people are badly marginalized in Kogi state as regards governorship seat. Secondly, they asked the President to ensure effective use of BVAS during the November governorship election in Kogi state. They also called on Mr. President to ensure security agencies are unbiased.
“What did they say to Mr. President that warranted all the insults from relevant and irrelevant politicians associated with Yahaya Bello?
“We, the youths of Okun land want to know if people like Alfred Bello, Toyin Kamal and their likes are against use of BVAS and impartiality by security agencies during the November governorship election. Are they angry that citizens of Okun land want free, fair and credible elections?
“We call on security agencies to take note of strange characters like these and monitor their activities before, during and after the election,” he said.
The youth group commended Ambassador Sola Enikanolaye and Hon. Leke Abejide for facilitating the noble visit to President Tinubu, adding that their patriotic acts did not go unnoticed.
They called on the electorate to see the unreasonable attacks as signs that enemies of Okun land are getting weaker by the day.
Omosona reiterated their avowed commitment to ensuring the next governor of Kogi state comes from Okun land.
