OLOP: Kogi Economic Council Introduces ‘One Local Government, One Product’ Initiative

In a bid to open up new economic corridors, Kogi state government has announced the introduction of its new economic policy – ‘One LGA One Product Initiatives’ (OLOP).

This was made known in a communiqué issued at the end of the 2nd Kogi State Economic Council (KOSEC) meeting held in Lokoja on Tuesday.

KOSEC resolved that each 21 local government council should come up with a product it has comparative advantage in, to enable them take advantage of mechanized farming and value chain development of each product.

A committee of five chaired by Barr. Deedat Ozigi Salami, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs was formed. 

The committee is to come up with the framework for implementation.

The economic council presided over by the chairman, Asiwaju Asiru Idris resolved to harmonize tax laws.

“After an exhaustive deliberation, the Council resolved that every necessary step must be taken to ensure that all revenues due to the State and Local Governments were collected while deliberate effort should be made to block all leakages.

“All grey areas as it relates to tax collection and remittance and the challenges therein should be adequately and sufficiently addressed,” the communiqué read.

The council agreed to set up a technical committee to look into the harmonization without further delay.
