A new political support group, the Native Boys Movement (NBM), has been formed in Kogi State to rally grassroots backing for the re-election of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The group was formerly known as the Ododo Season 2 Grassroot Network and has now officially rebranded under its new name in a move organizers say is meant to strengthen its identity and broaden its reach across the state.
According to the group, the name “Native Boys” was coined by Kogi political elders in recognition of Governor Ododo’s deep-rooted connection to the people, his humility in leadership, his accessibility to ordinary citizens, and his consistent respect for traditional institutions. Widely regarded by supporters as a true son of the soil, Ododo has built a reputation for engaging directly with local communities and prioritizing their needs — a leadership style backers describe as community-driven and culturally aligned with the people he serves.
The Native Boys Movement is led by Kogi State Deputy Chief of Staff, Hilary Egwudah Ojomah, who serves as Chairman. Hon. Jibril Abu (Wisdombank), member representing Ajaokuta State Constituency, has been named Director General of the movement.
With an already established grassroots structure inherited from its predecessor organization, the Native Boys Movement aims to consolidate support for Governor Ododo at all levels of the state as political activities gather momentum toward the 2027 elections. The group is expected to play a significant role in mobilizing grassroots support and promoting the achievements of the Ododo administration in the run-up to the polls.
Supporters of the movement argue that the governor’s re-election is necessary to consolidate gains recorded so far, particularly in infrastructure, peacebuilding, and community development. They contend that continuity in leadership will: Ensure the completion of ongoing projects, sustain security and stability across communities, deepen grassroots participation in governance, expand opportunities for youth and women, further strengthen the bond between government and traditional institutions
As political activity in Kogi State begins to intensify ahead of 2027, the Native Boys Movement is positioning itself as a formidable platform committed to sustaining the leadership of a governor its members describe as a “native son” — one whose governance, they say, reflects the values, aspirations, and everyday realities of the people of Kogi State.
