Governor Yahaya Bello has commissioned automatic telemetry and manual weather stations installed at Bagana in Omala local government area and Kogi State University.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Victor Omofaiye, the Governor assured the people of Bagana of government’s continued support for the community.
He explained explained that data obtained from the installed equipment would be used to improve their livelihoods as fishermen and farmers, and equally ensure that they are advised on safety measures in the event of flooding, or threats of flooding.
Also on the entourage was the Project Coordinator, Kogi State NEWMAP, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, as well as the representatives of NPC, NiMET and NIHSA.
On her part, the NEWMAP Project Coordinator, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, was full of praises for the Governor.
She reminded the people of Bagana that if it wasn’t for the environment friendly posture of the Governor, the much needed funds would not have been forthcoming.
Jatto urged the people of Bagana to jealously guard the installed equipment.
From Bagana, the team proceeded to Kogi State University, Anyigba.
While delivering his keynote address at Anyigba, the representative of the Governor, Hon. Victor Adewale Omofaiye thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs.) Marietu Tenuche for the show of enthusiasm, as the team was treated to a rousing welcome.
He reminded the Vice Chancellor that although there were competing demands for the choice of installing the automatic and manual weather stations, Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello chose the University as a show of love for the citadel of learning.
Hence, he reiterated the need to adequately take care of the installed equipment, as well as put to optimal use, all data collected from the equipment.
Delivering her speech, the Project Coordinator, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto congratulated the Vice Chancellor and the entire University community for the choice of the University for the installation of the state of the art equipment; and re-echoing Governor’s counsel, she admonished the Vice Chancellor to continue to ensure the safety of the equipment.
In a vote of thanks, the Head of Geography Department expressed gratitude to Kogi State Government for considering the institution as the choice of installing the weather stations.
He equally reeled out the various uses of the equipment in the areas of administration, weather forecast, medicine, farming, among several others.
