Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, has commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives in the tanker explosion that occurred at Felele, Lokoja on Wednesday.
A statement issued by Jones in Lokoja on Thursday described the incident as sad and very unfortunate. He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families that lost their loved ones in the inferno.
The Commissioner specifically expressed grief and sadness over the loss of some promising school children in the inferno, and sympathised with their parents and guardians.
Jones lamented that the unfortunate incident happened at a time when parents and school buses were expected to covey their wards to school, saying it was so sad.
He assured that government would not relent in its efforts to forestalling future occurrence of such unfortunate incident.
He urged the families of those that lost their children and loved ones to take solace in the fact that as parents they were able to deliver their responsibilities as guardians, fathers and mothers in sending their children to school before the unfortunate incident cut short their dreams.
”As Ministry and Government, we are with you and share in your griefs at this trying moment,” he said.
Also, Kogi-born women rights activist, entrepreneur, politician and philanthropist, Princess Layemi Joledo-Ayomah commiserated with the families of victims of the fatal fuel tanker explosion on Wednesday the federal highway in Lokoja.
In a statement released to Journalists in Lokoja, she expressed deep shock and sorrow over the horrifying accident that claimed the lives of more than 30 persons including school children.
Princess Layemi Joledo-Ayomah posits that the incessant occurrence of such tragedies on our roads is totally unacceptable considering the plethora of safety regulations in place.
She observed that similar incidents on the same portion of the highway in the past over time have made it imperative for a change in our road safety strategy to find a lasting solution that will put an end to the agonizing but avoidable carnage on the road.
Princess Layemi Joledo-Ayomah urged Stakeholders and relevant authorities in the transport sector to come up with ideas that will make our roads safer for commuters and pedestrians alike.
She extended her condolences to the government and people of Kogi State over the tragic incident while praying for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the inferno and quick recovery for those injured.
She admonished drivers, especially of articulated trucks, to comply with road regulations to avoid tragedies associated with road accidents.
