No fewer than 46, 000 pupils on Thursday sat for the 2019 Basic Six Evaluation Examination in Kogi, the State Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MoEST) has said.
Mr Sidi Mohammed, the Desk Officer, Basic Six Evaluation Examination of the ministry, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja.
Mohammed, who spoke on behalf of the ministry’s Commissioner, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya, said the essence of the basic six evaluation examination was to asses the pupils progressive learning skills and also ascertain their readiness for secondary school education.
He said that over 46, 000 pupils sat for the basic six examination in both private and public schools across the 21 local government areas of Kogi State.
“The exam was peaceful across the state, and the pupils turned out in their large numbers to sit for the exam.
He commended the state government for taking the burden of paying for all pupils that sat for the exam, while thanking the commissioner for facilitating it.
On her part, Dr Elizabeth Animoku, a Deputy Director, Planning Research and Statistics (PRS) in the ministry, who monitored the conduct of the exam in Lokoja, told NAN that it was very smooth and peaceful.
She said she visited about seven primary schools in Lokoja, restating that the conduct of the exam was very peaceful.
“The question papers were enough and the exam was well conducted; in fact, we have a vast improvement over the previous exams.
“No complain whatsoever in all the schools we monitored.
“So, I am glad that we are pulling up to this present standard right now, and I know that we have better things ahead regarding education in Kogi,” she said.
According to her, she visited Nurudeen Islamic Int’l Pry Sch., Harmony Pry Sch, Saint Anthony pry sch, among others.
Mr Sadiq Gowon, the Zonal Education Evaluator (ZEE) Okene, who monitored the exam in Okene, told NAN that the the exercise went on smoothly.
”I visited about four schools Success Int’l Sch., Supreme Academy, ILA Otutu Pry Sch. in Okene, among others.
“The exam was smooth and peaceful in Okene and we thanked the state government for putting everything in order,” he said.
NAN reports that the subjects for the basic six evaluation examination are: English Language, Mathematics, General Papers.
