The Nigerian child represent the hope of Nigeria yet the plight of a Nigerian child seem to be most battered and hugely neglected.
It is unfortunate that some of us grew under repressive government that didn’t cared for our well-being, but its more worrisome that this avoidable challenge has deteriorated over the years while most of these so called leaders lavish our common resources on their kids and wards to acquire best education in private schools and developed countries.
Aside poor education, access to basic heath care, nutrition and other right are far from the reach of an average child in this part of the world. While child labour, child trafficking and sexual violence against the girl child is on the increase.
It is time for government at all level to stop playing to the gallery and wake up to her responsibilities in this regard by adopting the UN’s Convention on the rights of the child and save our children from this monumental sufferings and embarrassment.
Happy Children’s Day!
