A leading Senatorial aspirant in the 2019 Kogi West Senate race, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi has described the unfortunate incidence of building collapse in the Jabi area of Abuja as an obvious failure of regulation and undeniable case of professional incapacity on the path of the government regulatory bodies and professionals on the site.
He said that until strong sanctions are placed on these people, the unfortunate incidence may continue unabated.
Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi, who is the Executive Director of Africa Media Roundtable Initiative (AMRI), however commiserates with the family of the deceased and wish the injured quick recovery.
He said: “My heart and thoughts are with the victims of the unfortunate but avoidable Jabi building collapse, this very painful incidence is a sad reminder of failure of regulatory institutions and endemic quackery in all professional fields in Nigeria. Government and indeed relevant agencies must immediately arrest the ugly trend in the interest of safety and standards. By the grace of God, when we get to the Senate, we will make legislations that will criminalize such failures, create implementable social insurance for site and industrial workers against such accidents and promote uptimum performance of regulatory institutions in Nigeria”
He urged government to ensure the individuals involved in the building work must be immediately investigated and justice served appropriately.
