The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ,  Kogi State Council, Comrade Adeiza Momohjimoh has lamented the poor reward system in Nigeria, noting that most workers, especially journalists, who do most of the works are poorly remunerated.
Comr. Adeiza Momohjimoh who made this lamentation during the 2018 Press Week Special Sunday Service held at Chapel of Freedom Int’l Church, Lokoja,  noted that journalists work round the clock with no time for selves and families.
Against this background, he said a week is dedicated annually to celebrate the press, disclosing that a Jumat service had earlier been held on Friday and the Sunday service is to be followed by medical services for the public,  a road walk and the grand finale with fund raising.
While disclosing that a journalist from The Graphic chapel, Nathaniel Drisu died in active service last week, he solicited for the church prayers for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased and the family he left behind as well as other journalists in the course of their duties.
Earlier, the General Overseer of the church, Bishop (Dr) John Ibenu who was represented by his Wife stressed the importance of journalism profession and assured of the willingness to partner with NUJ if carried along.
He described journalists as recorders of God’s word, preacher of His word and truth, historians who preserve documents, just as he pointed out that the profession has a lot of challenges.
While listing the challenges confronting journalism, he noted that only the tyrants are afraid of journalists.
He however urged them to always stand by the truth, imbibe the ethics of the profession and shun bribery.
Highlights of the service were prayer for the working journalists and a light refreshment by the church.
