Energy of youth with experience of old can do wonders in a society. The importance of youths as veritable tools for the development of any nation cannot be over stressed, neither can any society neglect her youths in the scheme of things in her quest for national, state, social, economic and political development.
How the youth are been use this days is becoming something terrible that we the youth should learn how to avoid those politicians who have no regard for the youth.
2019 election is coming closer and the more election come closer the more our politicians also come closer to the youths. That is the logic and they can also come to your area and start dancing with you and buying local food from local restaurant, that is their trick to affiliate with the youth to mesmerize you that they love you and they will start giving out their real phone number i.e before the election but after the election the nonsense will stop.
Kogi state is a state were our political leaders only sees the youth as a tools for engaging in political war rather than for development.
Kogi youths have long been marginalized, long abandoned, long abused and long disinherited by the past political leaders.
Kogi is a state that devours its youths. It’s a state that terrorizes its youths. It’s a state that offers no hope, no life, no dream, and no future. It’s a dead state full of dead youths.
The youth’s role in society is to find out who they want to be and how they want to form that identity but the youth are finding it difficult because they lack education and political consciousness, they can’t choose and seek their
interests. They can’t choose their ways and directions of life. They can’t set goals for themselves and strive to achieve them. They can’t propel themselves in the right, proper, and straight direction.
That must change.
The youths must be in charge of their life. The youths must decide their future. The youths must stop living like strangers and refugees in their own state.
Youths should be at the forefront of global change and innovation. Empowered, they can be key agents for development and peace. If, however, they are left on society’s margins, all of us will be impoverished.
Let us ensure that all young people have every opportunity to participate fully in the lives of their societies. We the youths should not allow ourselves to be used as tools in fighting selfish and ambiguous propaganda. A lot of youth have lost their lives in a political war that profit their families nothing.
Our political leaders will only call for protest by giving the youths 500 naira to carry out the protest but their children will be in abroad schooling and none of there family members will take part in the protest and they will only be watching the protest on television and if any youth are kill if the like they will send 100,000 naira to the family of the dead youth.
Will 100,000 naira bring back your life? Will it cover all your plans and dream? Will the money be enough for your family? Hell NO.
So, why must we the youths risk our lives for a selfish politician that has no impact to our life? As you are willing to protect and die for your political leader because of the love you have for him, the question now is that is your political leader ready to die for you? Is he ready to protect you? As you love him, did he love you in return? Hell NO!
Do you know how many youth are been killed all because of politics and what do they do for their families? Nothing.
Do you know how many youth are been jailed for so many years now all because of politics? What do they do about that? Nothing.
Political leaders, stop giving the youth guns, stop engaging the youth in political crisis, stop deceiving the youth because you are once a youth like us. If you were given gun when you are youth like us you will not get to this extend?
Political leaders, give us job, give us scholarship, give us a real skill acquisition program, empower us base on our skills and provide us with all the necessary tools to stand on our own without knocking your gate everyday so that we can contribute to the development of our state because we the youth are the engine room of every nation.
The similitude of the importance of youth to nation building could be likened to a car engine, without which vehicles can’t move. So also without youth, a nation cannot thrive.
The youth are the bedrock and the foundation upon which every nation in the quest for development and improved standard of living of her citizenry builds upon. Hence, the youth play a vital role and serve as an important tool to national development.
If the society, free from crimes, vices, insecurity and other negativity which we so desire must be achieved, then migration must be discouraged among Nigerian youth and this is possible if the government provide an enabling
environment for our youths to compete favourably with their counterparts from across the world. By providing employment, eradicating poverty (by improving the standard of living), giving education a priority in the budget, fighting and eradicating corruption and giving the youths access to political leadership positions in the country.
With these, Nigeria will not need to look outside for her developmental needs or technocrats but instead she will look inward, for such is the success of many great and developed nations of today.
I am encouraging the youths to take massive action towards peace and development. Let us reach out on social media with messages and hashtags that borders on peace and development and ‘One Kogi’. We can organize a youth
forum, concert or debate to discuss our cultural background in order to help young people embrace a culture of peace and non-violence. We can also explore the aspects of music, sports, talent hunts and arts exhibitions to create a rallying point and awareness for peace and harmonious living.
