The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) have been accused of failing in their core duties to their franchised costumers.
The Kogi State Commissioner For Rural Development, Mr Enema Paul while briefing journalists on the activities of his Ministries in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital noted that AEDC has failed in its agreement to repair and replace electrical installations.
Enema noted that the distribution company were supposed to repair and replace any warn out electrical infrastructure, adding that the company has failed to give out adequate power to Kogi people. He accused the AEDC of putting the state in regular blackout.
“When Power was privatized under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, AEDC and their sister companies across the country agreed to fix and replace any electrical installations that break down. What we are seeing right now is the reserve. Many transformers under their watch are down thereby allowing our people to suffer power outage in their various communities.
“The Government under Alhaji Yahaya Bello could not take this any longer as he has provided transformers and sought alternative power supply to remove his people from this suffering,” he said.
The commissioner maintained that it is to this end that there was need for the state government to come to the aid of his people by providing transformers and looking forward to seek power from an alternative source.
He also spoke on the issue of vandalism of electrical installations across the state, noting that it has led to prolonged period of outage. He also called on the law enforcement agencies to help in reducing the cases of vandalism across the state.
The commissioner also stated that Governor Yahaya Bello in collaboration with key companies in the power sector has completed the installations of over 100 transformers to boost power supply across Kogi East, West, and Central part of the State.
AEDC franchise states includes; Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Nassarawa and Niger states.
