The Kogi State Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji Taufiq Isa has described calls on Governor Yahaya Bello to resign because of his involvement in INEC double registration as antics of desperate men who wish to be governor.
Taufiq, in reaction to statements credited to Hon. James Faleke and Senator Dino Melaye, said Gov. Bello is focused on the new direction policy of his administration and rapid economic development of Kogi state and is not bothered by their calls for his resignation.
While the furore generated by the news of Gov. Bello’s double registration rages unabated, Faleke and Dino advised the governor to resign honourably. The duo pointed to the sack of three staff of INEC as an indictment on Bello.
However, Taufiq believes Faleke and Dino are disparaging the governor for political reasons.
“The governor have no time for distractions. He is making efforts to settle the salary arrears of the entire workers in the state before the coming yuletide.
“Reports credited to the House of Representatives member representing Ikeja constituency in Lagos, Mr. James Faleke and Senator Dino Melaye accusing the governor of double registration and asking him to resign from office can be described as over ambitious moves and desperation to become governor.
“Today some people from certain quarters are fighting back because Governor Bello refused to compromise with them. The only vote of confidence he got and still need is the vote of confidence from Almighty God who gave him the mandate and the testimony of the people on his performance, especially the youths whom he considers as the major stakeholders of his administration.
“We are aware that those throwing stones from outside are enemies of the state, they would continue to cast aspersions on the governor. We are fully aware of there antics,” he said.
Isa thanked the people of the state for their patience, perseverance and unflinching support for Gov. Bello so far, noting that the governor is determined to serve the people of Kogi State.
He urged the electorates to believe in the present administration stressing that the pains of the detractors is due to the fact that governance in Kogi state is no longer business as usual.
