The 25 – member Kogi State House of Assembly have been advised to stop enriching themselves instead of their constituencies as one of the main proceed of democracy is to extend dividends of democracy to their constituents who under the rain and in the sun came out enmass to ensure their victory at polls.
This was part of the 2017 Kogi State Legislature Assessment Report released by the BEBM Exhibition as part of its contribution to good governance in Kogi State particularly as it concerns legislative representation.
According to the report, most Kogi State Legislators are advised to spend more of the constituency allowances for their constituencies for which it is made for.
Six members of the assembly were however commended by the report for their impact in rural development of their people with particular mention of their contributions to rural water supply, rural road, rural electricity and youth empowerment.
The members include Hon. Moses Ododo, Dekina-Biraidu Constituency; Hon. Momohjimoh Lawal, Okene II Constituency; Hon. Idris Ndako Lokoja II Constituency; Hon. Victory Omofaye, the Chief Whip of Kogi State House of Assembly; Hon. Umar Alfa Imam, Lokoja I Constituency and Prince Matthew Kolawole, the Speaker Kogi State House of Assembly.
The BEBM Exhibition team enjoined the citizen of Kogi State to appreciate the five legislators so ranked for their quality service and representation of the people while calling on them to put more effort in the area of quality bill presentation in the floor of the House. “It is only through this that our systems and frame work of governance can be re-enforced for effective service delivery as we approach 2018.”
The report signed by the Secretary of the Advisory Council, Chief Benjamin Fajuku, the Baalo of Oworo Kingdom, praised Civil Society Organizations in Kogi State particularly the Centre for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution led by Comrade Idris Miliki for always contribution to enhancing the capacity of legislators.
