Boat Regatta: Shiru Commends Lokoja Forum of Patriots

The Administrator of Lokoja local government area, Hon. Shiru Lawal, has commended the Lokoja Forum of Patriots for efforts to re-write the history of Lokoja.
Shiru gave the commendations while delivering his speech at the maiden edition of Lokoja Boat Regatta organized by Lokoja Forum of Patriot in Lokoja on Saturday.
The administrator noted that the forum’s disposition towards re-launching the ancient town into the world map of tourism and cultural development will attract as well as  encourage the government at all levels to invest in Lokoja local government area.
He noted that the introduction of Boat Regatta in Lokoja would further project the name of the town, in addition to the historical relics and tourists attraction that abound in the area. He added that if the artifacts are properly harnessed, it would woo a lot of investors and tourists which would boost the revenue base of the local government and state in general.
He appealed to the organisers to work hard to protect the giant strides recorded by the forum, assuring them of his administration’s support at all time.
He announced that the council is working in collaboration with the state government to modify the Annual Danko Fishing Festival to attain international standards.
In a related development, Chairman of Danko Development Forum, Alhaji Bama Mudi has promised to partner with Lokoja Forum of Patriots to move Lokoja local government area to the highest pedestal of development.
The chairman who was represented by Alhaji Sulaiman Baba and Alhaji Bala Haruna, made the promise while speaking with journalists at the Boat Regatta festival in Lokoja.
He said the revival of Boat Regatta by the patriots deserves commendations by all. He noted that Lokoja local government area, with cultural potentials should not be allowed to die.
“We have a lot of cultural values and traditions which unite us before now, one of which is swimming competition and canoe race. With the revival of this cultural heritage by Lokoja Forum of Patriots, our younger generation are put on track and I pray they should maintain it,” he said.
The event was attended by Hon. Tijjani Shehu Bin-ebaiya, an APC chairmanship aspirant for Lokoja local government council, Special Advisers, serving and former members of State House of Assembly, traditional rulers and a host of others.
